Programme Structure
This comprehensive one-month certification runs from 11th July to 10th August, offering both online and offline options (Thane, India). The IYO®-certified programme is designed to deepen your personal practice whilst preparing you to teach advanced postures safely.

Foundational & Core Work
Foundation for Advanced Practice
Begin your journey with crucial understanding of body mechanics for advanced asanas. We'll cover risk factors, safety protocols, and proper progression techniques to ensure your practice develops safely.
The practical component includes foundational flows incorporating Plank, Downward Dog, and Utkatasana, alongside essential mobility drills for all major joints and breathing patterns optimised for advanced holds.
Core Strength & Arm Balances
Discover the critical muscles involved in arm balances, master core engagement techniques, and learn proper wrist preparation to prevent injuries. This knowledge forms the foundation for your advanced practice.
Practice includes Crow (Bakasana), Side Crow, Flying Lizard, and various forearm plank holds. You'll also explore Boat variations and specialised drills using blocks and props to build the necessary strength.
Hip Opening & Backbends
Deep Hip Opening
Explore the anatomy of hips, pelvis, and sacrum, learning crucial contraindications and alignment cues for safe Lotus progression. Practice includes Pigeon, Lizard, Double Pigeon, Fire Log, and Padmasana preparation with meditative posture drills.
Foundational Backbends
Master spinal segmentation and extension mechanics alongside shoulder-opening alignment techniques. Practice includes Bhujangasana, Ustrasana, Setu Bandhasana, and progressive variations of Sphinx and Cobra, with proper use of props for support.
Advanced Backbends
Understand the emotional and energetic effects of backbending and learn to prepare the nervous system for deeper bends. Practice includes Dhanurasana, Urdhva Dhanurasana, Kapotasana, partner-supported drills, and counterpose balancing techniques.
Inversions Mastery
Building Inversion Confidence
Our comprehensive approach to inversions begins with crucial cervical spine protection techniques and safety protocols. You'll learn the proper progression for Salamba Sarvangasana (Shoulderstand), Halasana, and Tripod Headstand, starting with wall support and incorporating neck-strengthening drills.
As you advance, we'll focus on shoulder and core integration for more challenging inversions like Handstand and Forearm Stand. Master fear management, proper spotting techniques, and essential preparatory poses like Dolphin. Sessions include Pincha Mayurasana drills, Handstand wall practice, and specialised wrist therapy exercises.
Advanced Postures & Transitions
Twists & Detoxifying Asanas
Discover the biomechanics of spinal rotation and the internal cleansing effects of twisting postures. Practice includes Ardha Matsyendrasana, Parivrtta Trikonasana, and various supine and seated deep twist variations for organ massage and detoxification.
Advanced Forward Bends
Learn proper sacrum alignment, pelvic tilt awareness, and injury prevention techniques for hamstrings. Master challenging poses including Paschimottanasana, Kurmasana, and Hanumanasana, with prop-supported stretch holds for gradual progression.
Flying & Transitioning
Develop balance, control, and weight-shifting techniques alongside breath coordination for seamless transitions. Practice includes advanced arm balances like Eka Pada Koundinyasana I & II, Eight-Angle Pose (Astavakrasana), and jump-back/jump-through drills.
Teaching & Certification
Advanced Sequencing Techniques
Learn the art of building peak-pose sequences with proper warm-ups and cooldowns. Master safety considerations, modifications for different levels, and effective verbal cueing. This practical module includes partner practice sessions for sequencing and cueing, plus group micro-teaching rounds with instructor feedback.
Assessment & Certification
The certification process requires teaching a 15-minute advanced asana sequence and completing a viva examination on alignment, safety, and anatomy. Upon successful completion, you'll receive your official IYO® International Advanced Asanas Teacher certification during our closing ceremony, which includes personalised feedback and a final guided relaxation.
